Hand-applied, layer by layer, and burnished until it glows like marble. Venetian plaster gives walls a depth and movement that paint and wallpaper simply cannot.
Venetian plaster is a decorative lime-based plaster, often with marble dust, applied by hand in thin layers with a steel trowel and burnished to a soft sheen or high polish.
The trowel work creates natural variation and depth, so the finish can resemble polished marble, natural stone or soft suede. Styles include marmorino, stucco and highly polished finishes, each with its own character.
It is where Feature Finishes began, and it is still one of the most beautiful ways to turn a hallway, living room or reception into a feature.

Most of our Venetian plaster goes onto ordinary painted walls. Once they are made good, layers of hand-trowelled plaster turn them into the feature of the room.

Venetian plaster is priced per square metre and every wall is different. These are the things that shape the price.
A single feature wall, a full room or a whole hallway and staircase.
Cracks, old paper or uneven plaster are made good before any decorative coats.
High-polish finishes need more layers and burnishing than matt marmorino.
Curves, niches, ceilings and corners take more hand work.
High stairwells and double-height walls may need scaffold towers.

Ask a questionVenetian plaster is a decorative lime-based plaster, often containing marble dust, applied by hand in thin layers and burnished to create a smooth finish with the depth and movement of polished stone.
They are all decorative lime plasters. Venetian or polished plaster is usually burnished to a sheen or high polish, marmorino has a finer stone-like texture with a softer sheen, and stucco tends to be more mottled and matt. We show you each on sample boards.
It depends on the wall area, the condition of the walls, the finish and polish level, and access. Send us photos on WhatsApp for an initial estimate, and we confirm a fixed written price after a free survey.
Yes, with a suitable system and a protective sealer or wax. For walls that get direct water, such as inside a shower, we may suggest microcement or a specific waterproof plaster system instead.
Lime-based plaster hardens over time and, looked after, lasts for many years. Small marks can often be repaired locally without redoing the whole wall.
Several thin layers are applied with drying time between each, so a feature wall usually takes a few days including preparation. We confirm timings in your quote.
Usually, once the wall is sound, flat and properly primed. Cracks, wallpaper or loose paint are dealt with first, which we check at survey.
